In 1868 the Town of White Bear was ten years old and had just begun to earn its reputation as a beautiful, relaxing and healthful place to spend the summer months. In the fall of that year the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad opened its first division leading from St. Paul to Duluth and changed the course of White Bear’s history forever. Within a few years the Golden Resort Era had taken hold of the community and grand resorts sprang up along Lake Avenue and around the lake due to the easy access of a twenty minute train ride from St. Paul.
