Volunteer Spotlight

We've Moved!

Over the next several months there will be significant changes and upgrades to our website starting with a new name for the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society's website. We can now be found at www.whitebearhistory.org so be sure to add the new link to your favorites. All of these improvements take a great deal of work behind the scenes. Many hours have been contributed by Stephanie Askin from web design to database management and everything in between. Without her patience persistence and expertise we would be in tough shape. Thank you, Stephanie for all you do!

We would not be able to provide many of our programs and events without our numerous volunteers who make things happen! Whether it is giving tours at The House, sorting papers at the Resource Library or answering questions for visitors, we rely heavily on the help of our volunteers. Thank you to all of you-new and continuing!

Volunteer and Make a Difference!
Great opportunities are available by calling 651-407-5327 or stopping in at the Depot Museum at the intersection of 4th Street and Highway 61 in downtown White Bear Lake.

Current needs include:

  • Come join in the fun at the Depot! We need people to help staff the Depot each day that we are open. We have set this up in two shifts for three hours each throughout the day. The shifts are 10:00am to 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The main focus of the position is to answer phone calls and greet visitors. However Sara always has numerous projects going on and usually has other things that volunteers can work on as well including photo indexing and filing, proof reading, working on mailings, transcribing and many more! It’s guaranteed to be a good time! Don’t miss out!
  • Can’t make it to the Depot? Help out with tours and events at the Fillebrown House! As spring and summer approach, we’re gearing up to have tours and different events at the Fillebrown House and are always looking for volunteers to be tour guides. Dress up and have a ball playing the numerous interesting characters that have touched the Fillebrown House in its years.
  • Want to do something outside in our great Minnesota spring and summer weather? We have just the opportunity for you! We host several historic walking tours and boat tours during the spring and summer months. We are looking for people that would be interested in being tour guides on the walking tours through the downtown area. Help out the historical society and get some exercise at the same time! Have a pontoon boat on White Bear Lake? Volunteer the boat and yourself as driver for one of our summer boat tours. Don’t have a boat but like to be on the lake? You’d be perfect as a tour guide for our boat tours throughout the summer!

Please contact me at Betsy@whitebearhistory.org or by calling the Depot at 651-407-5327 to let me know what works for you! Again I’m looking forward to working with you!
